PLAN A TRIP
Bike hire and coaching
Reserve suitable equipment and choose instruction that matches the rider, venue and intended terrain.
Reviewed · General UK planning guidance · Check current operator and manufacturer information
Hiring a bike
Supply accurate height, experience and intended grade.
- Confirm bike type, wheel size, pedals, helmet, protection, repair support and damage terms.
- Ask whether setup changes and a familiarisation period are included.
- Inspect brakes, tyres and controls with staff before leaving.
Choosing coaching
Look for recognised qualifications, insurance and a clear session plan.
- Describe confidence and recent riding honestly rather than naming an aspirational grade.
- Ask about group size, cancellation policy and whether video feedback is used.
- Confirm safeguarding arrangements for children and vulnerable participants.
During the session
Instruction should create choices rather than pressure.
- Tell the coach about injuries, access needs and equipment concerns.
- Request an easier progression when a feature feels too large.
- Stop if concentration, weather or equipment condition makes learning unsafe.
