Hiring a bike

Supply accurate height, experience and intended grade.

  • Confirm bike type, wheel size, pedals, helmet, protection, repair support and damage terms.
  • Ask whether setup changes and a familiarisation period are included.
  • Inspect brakes, tyres and controls with staff before leaving.

Choosing coaching

Look for recognised qualifications, insurance and a clear session plan.

  • Describe confidence and recent riding honestly rather than naming an aspirational grade.
  • Ask about group size, cancellation policy and whether video feedback is used.
  • Confirm safeguarding arrangements for children and vulnerable participants.

During the session

Instruction should create choices rather than pressure.

  • Tell the coach about injuries, access needs and equipment concerns.
  • Request an easier progression when a feature feels too large.
  • Stop if concentration, weather or equipment condition makes learning unsafe.
