Charge, transport and store lithium-ion batteries with approved equipment and clear action for damage or overheating.

Charge safely
Use only the compatible manufacturer-approved charger.
- Charge on a stable surface away from escape routes and combustible clutter.
- Do not charge unattended or while asleep, and unplug when the maker directs.
- Avoid extreme temperatures and allow a cold or hot battery to reach an approved range first.
Inspect and transport
Impacts and water ingress may not be immediately obvious.
- Inspect casing, mounts, terminals and locking after a crash.
- Follow vehicle, rail, ferry and airline rules; many operators restrict batteries.
- Protect removed batteries against movement, short circuits and moisture.
If something is wrong
Smoke, hissing, odour or rapid heating can precede fire.
- Move away, warn others and call 999 when there is immediate danger.
- Do not handle a burning or venting battery or use an unsuitable extinguisher.
- Use an authorised dealer or recycling route for damaged batteries.
