Choose a flexible venue

Parallel loops and shared facilities simplify regrouping.

  • Select a common green or blue start with optional harder loops.
  • Agree meeting places that are away from trail exits.
  • Avoid remote routes where splitting creates navigation or emergency problems.

Set expectations

Describe pace and technical content honestly.

  • Make walking and easier lines normal.
  • Use a back marker and regroup before junctions.
  • Never send one rider alone to shorten the route.

Adapt during the ride

Energy and confidence can change quickly.

  • Reassess after the first complete loop.
  • Split only into viable subgroups with navigation, tools and leadership.
  • End the shared plan before weather, daylight or fatigue removes alternatives.

Useful official guidance

Rules, conditions and services change. Use these sources and the relevant venue’s current information before relying on a plan.
