START RIDING
Wet-weather riding technique
Adapt braking, line choice and route selection for reduced grip while protecting vulnerable trails.

Choose the ground
Soils respond differently to rain.
- Check closures and local requests before travelling.
- Prefer durable managed surfaces when natural ground is saturated.
- Do not create widening by riding around puddles or soft sections.
Ride smoothly
Abrupt inputs consume limited grip.
- Brake earlier and more progressively before roots, timber and polished rock.
- Keep vision ahead and allow the bike small movements beneath you.
- Reduce lean, speed and feature ambition when grip is uncertain.
Manage visibility and cold
Rain affects riders as well as surfaces.
- Use clear eye protection and clothing that preserves control.
- Carry warmth for delays and shorten the route before hands become numb.
- Clean and inspect brakes, drivetrain and bearings after the ride.
