Brake care and pad checks
Inspect pads, rotors and lever feel before steep riding and recognise faults that require a workshop.

Before riding
Check both systems independently.
- Pull each lever firmly and confirm it does not reach the handlebar.
- Inspect pad material, rotor damage and secure calliper and rotor hardware.
- Spin each wheel and investigate new rubbing rather than assuming it will clear.
Avoid contamination
Oil can permanently compromise pads.
- Keep chain lubricant, polish and dirty brushes away from braking surfaces.
- Use products approved for disc-brake cleaning.
- Replace contaminated pads and clean rotors according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Heat and service
Long descents increase system temperature.
- Brake progressively and allow cooling rather than dragging continuously where technique permits.
- Stop for fluid leaks, fading, unusual noise or inconsistent bite point.
- Use a qualified mechanic for hydraulic bleeding or uncertain damage.
