BIKE AND KIT
Bike setup by trail grade
Match a serviceable bike, tyres, brakes and suspension to the terrain without chasing arbitrary numbers.

Green and blue
Comfort, predictable braking and puncture resistance are the priorities.
- Use tyres with sound tread and pressure that avoids rim strikes without feeling harsh.
- Set saddle height for comfortable pedalling and practise using any dropper post.
- Check that brake levers are reachable with one finger without twisting the wrists.
Red and black
Harder trails increase loads but do not create one universal setup.
- Use suitable tyres and sufficient casing protection for rocks, speed and rider weight.
- Set suspension sag from the manufacturer’s guidance, then change one setting at a time.
- Inspect brake pads, rotors, wheels, bearings and suspension service intervals before committing terrain.
Pre-ride check
Repeat the same simple sequence every time.
- Tyres inflated and undamaged; axles secure; wheels spin freely.
- Brakes bite firmly; bars, stem, saddle and cranks have no unexpected movement.
- Chain runs quietly; suspension and dropper operate normally; nothing leaks.
