PLAN A TRIP
Checking live trail status
Use land-manager notices, venue channels and on-site signs in the right order before relying on a route description.
Reviewed · General UK planning guidance · Check current operator and manufacturer information
Before travelling
Go to the official route or venue page directly.
- Check closures, diversions, forestry operations, events and weather restrictions.
- Confirm publication date and whether the notice covers the whole network or one trail.
- Check parking, access road and opening information separately.
On arrival
Status can change after an online update.
- Read entrance boards and temporary signs.
- Do not enter behind barriers or follow others through a closure.
- Ask staff where present, but do not assume an unstaffed trail is open.
Share accurately
Avoid amplifying stale information.
- Link to the official notice rather than paraphrasing uncertain details.
- Report newly observed hazards with location and time.
- State when a personal observation was made and never remove closure signs.
