PLAN A TRIP
E-bike range planning
Estimate range conservatively around climbing, temperature, surface, load and the consequences of losing assistance.
Reviewed · General UK planning guidance · Check current operator and manufacturer information
Know the variables
Display estimates are conditional, not guarantees.
- Climbing, soft ground, cold, rider mass, tyre pressure and high assistance reduce range.
- Battery age and state of charge matter.
- Use records from similar rides rather than a best-case marketing figure.
Build margin
Do not plan to arrive at zero.
- Set conservative turnaround points and lower assistance early.
- Choose bailouts that avoid technical climbing with a heavy unassisted bike.
- Account for companions whose batteries or fitness differ.
Charging and spares
Permission and compatibility must be confirmed.
- Use only approved chargers and obtain explicit charging permission.
- Transport spare batteries according to maker and carrier rules.
- Never use damaged, wet or suspicious aftermarket batteries.
