BIKE AND KIT
Bike care on multi-day trips
Use short daily checks to catch pad, tyre, drivetrain and fastener problems before the next day’s ride.
Reviewed · General UK planning guidance · Check current operator and manufacturer information
After each ride
Clean only enough to inspect and preserve function.
- Remove heavy mud gently and dry the bike.
- Check tyres, wheels, brake pads, drivetrain, axles and visible frame areas.
- Note unusual noise or handling before memory fades.
Restore essentials
Prepare the next day immediately.
- Lubricate the chain correctly and replenish repair consumables.
- Charge lights, navigation and approved e-bike batteries safely.
- Dry clothing, gloves and shoes without damaging protective equipment.
Escalate faults
A trip schedule does not make a defect safe.
- Use a competent local workshop for uncertain brake, wheel, suspension or structural issues.
- Choose an easier day while waiting for parts.
- End the trip for faults that compromise steering, braking or wheel retention.
