BIKE AND KIT
Suspension setup and servicing
Establish a safe baseline for air pressure, sag and rebound, then maintain it consistently.
Reviewed · General UK planning guidance · Check current operator and manufacturer information
Create the baseline
Use the manufacturer’s manual for the exact fork or shock.
- Set pressure and sag with normal riding kit and assistance.
- Count rebound clicks from a defined end of the range and write the result down.
- Never exceed printed pressure limits or improvise damper settings you do not understand.
Tune on familiar ground
Use a repeatable section below your limit.
- Change only one variable, by a small amount, between runs.
- Too little pressure can cause harsh bottom-outs; too much can reduce grip and comfort.
- Return to baseline if the bike becomes less predictable.
Service signs
Suspension contains pressurised and precision parts.
- Follow the maker’s lower-leg, air-can and full-service intervals.
- Stop for leaks, damage, unusual noise or loss of damping.
- Use a qualified suspension technician for internal work beyond your competence.
