Choose and fit
Follow the vehicle and rack manufacturers’ instructions together.
- Confirm roof, towbar nose-weight and individual-bike limits, especially for e-bikes.
- Use approved mounting points and recheck fasteners after the first miles.
- Remove loose batteries or accessories only where their manufacturer permits.
Stay legal and visible
The load must not obscure required signals or identification.
- Use a compliant lighting board and number plate when bikes hide the vehicle’s lights or plate.
- Keep within permitted dimensions and secure every wheel and frame contact.
- Account for extra height before barriers, garages and ferries.
Reduce theft risk
A rack lock is often only a brief deterrent.
- Add an appropriate independent lock where possible and minimise unattended stops.
- Do not leave bikes on a vehicle overnight unless insurance conditions explicitly allow it.
- Recheck straps, clamps and wheel position at every stop.
