BIKE AND KIT
Winter bike storage
Store clean, dry bikes and batteries while preventing corrosion, flat tyres, seized parts and fire risk.
Reviewed · General UK planning guidance · Check current operator and manufacturer information
Prepare the bike
Clean and inspect before storage.
- Dry the frame and drivetrain, lubricate the chain sparingly and address existing faults.
- Inflate tyres appropriately and avoid prolonged loading that damages them.
- Release no pressure or suspension setting unless the manufacturer instructs it.
Choose the space
Stable, dry and secure is preferable.
- Keep bikes away from corrosive chemicals, direct heat and persistent condensation.
- Use approved hooks or supports without damaging rims, hydraulics or carbon parts.
- Maintain layered theft security even inside a locked building.
E-bike batteries
Use the maker’s storage charge and temperature guidance.
- Store undamaged batteries away from exits and combustible clutter.
- Check periodically without leaving chargers permanently connected unless approved.
- Use authorised recycling for damaged or end-of-life batteries.
