Introduction

Okeford Hill Bike Park is a descending-focused venue above Okeford Fitzpaine in Dorset, aimed at intermediate and experienced off-road riders. Its Land Rover uplift makes repeated descents possible without riding back up after every run. Pick it for technical riding and progression on a compact hill, with the day’s line choices shaped by your skills and current conditions.

The operator’s current homepage advertises Saturday and Sunday sessions, with tickets sold through its booking page. Named trails range from Flowter, described as the easiest introduction to the steeper terrain, to Darkside’s technical features and Rocket Line’s jumps. Easiest within this park does not mean suitable for somebody still learning basic braking or balance.

Okeford Hill Bike Park mountain bike trails and grades

Flowter

The operator describes this as its easiest line, introducing steeper-style riding without too many roots or unrollable features. Make a controlled first descent and leave time to repeat it. Learn braking points before increasing speed or adding another trail.

Official route information →

Big Grin

This published jump-focused trail is intended to offer progression for riders beginning to leave the ground as well as experienced jumpers. Assess each feature independently. A first visit is a good reason to keep the session conservative, even when a line looks inviting.

Official route information →

Darkside

The park calls this its most technical track, with rock gardens, drops, steps, steep roots and a finishing road gap. Some described obstacles have bypasses, but that does not make the whole track forgiving. Reserve it for established technical riding and inspect unfamiliar sections.

Rocket Line

Black

The operator describes a surfaced jump line with doubles, shark fins and the substantial Moon booter. It requires a clear grasp of take-off, speed and landing. Approach it as a specific jumping objective, not an inevitable next run after completing a different descent.

Best first ride

Begin with staff advice about the open trails and the day’s loading arrangements. If steeper bike-park riding is already comfortable, Flowter offers the operator’s stated starting point. Use that first run to settle into the terrain and establish grip. A good opening lap leaves enough attention for braking, exits and the position of other riders.

An uplift day can make it tempting to collect runs quickly. Give each unfamiliar feature time: view the approach, identify the intended line and decide whether it belongs in today’s session. Do not use another rider’s speed as your setup for a jump. Repeating a manageable trail can teach more than rushing into a difficult line once.

Keep the group’s progression flexible. One rider may want to repeat Flowter while another is ready for an expert feature, so agree meeting points and respect that difference. Stop somewhere visible and clear of riding lines. If walking a feature, avoid standing on a landing or crossing into an approaching rider’s path.

Where is Okeford Hill Bike Park?

The operator warns that DT11 0EF takes you to the edge of Okeford Fitzpaine, not directly to the park. Follow its directions through the village from the A357, then take the uphill turning and use the gateway in the layby at the brow of the hill. Official directions →

The operator warns that DT11 0EF takes you to the edge of Okeford Fitzpaine, not directly to the park. Follow its directions through the village from the A357, then take the uphill turning and use the gateway in the layby at the brow of the hill. Continue along the access track and through gateways to the parking area on the right.

Allow time for that final approach, unloading and reporting to staff before the booked session. Drive considerately around people and other vehicles on the access track. Read the ticket product so the party understands whether they are using uplift or riding back up. Non-uplift riders still need a day pass; use the designated return route.

Facilities

The uplift uses an open-top Land Rover and bicycle trailer, with bikes secured and inspected by the driver. Follow the crew’s loading instructions and keep hands and loose equipment clear of moving bikes. Settle any question about a heavy or unusually shaped bike before relying on that service. An uplift ticket should not be treated as a promise of a fixed run total.

The 2026 booking information welcomes e-bike riders on the same day-pass tariff as riders pushing up. Plan battery use around the climbing you expect and confirm any unusual equipment with the operator. The presence of an e-bike ticket does not establish on-site charging or hire. Bring the spares and tools appropriate to your own bicycle.

Helmets are mandatory under the park terms. Full-face protection, knee pads and gloves are strongly recommended for this downhill terrain. Prepare a properly maintained bike with functioning front and rear brakes. Pack water, food and a dry layer for breaks, and organise any essential toilet or meal stop around the wider trip before heading to the hill.

Seasons and weather

The 2026 Wednesday evening uplift season ended on 16 September, according to the operator’s current homepage update. Weekend riding is the relevant published option for an autumn visit; use the date-specific booking availability for your trip. A Wednesday time printed in a generic footer should not determine a journey after the seasonal sessions have finished.

Weather can change a day’s operation as well as the feel of the riding. The booking page states that operator-cancelled days are refunded in full. Read the complete terms for your booking and look for messages before departure. On the hill, let grip and visibility determine pace, and finish before tiredness turns a familiar feature into a poor decision.

Camping and places to stay near Okeford Hill Bike Park

A base in Okeford Fitzpaine / Sturminster Newton / Blandford Forum

Okeford Fitzpaine is the immediate village anchor, with Sturminster Newton and Blandford Forum offering bases for a longer break. The Fiddleford Inn near Sturminster Newton serves pub food and has overnight rooms. Reserve meals around your likely finish, and ask about bicycle storage separately. Being a real inn with bedrooms does not itself guarantee a secure place for riding equipment.

For companions, the nearby Okeford Hill landscape has a picnic spot and walking options towards Turnworth Down or Blandford Forest, described by Dorset National Landscape. Choose a walk from its published information and the rights-of-way map, keeping the outing separate from the park’s descending tracks. Agree transport and meeting times if the group shares one car.

Frequently asked questions

Is Flowter a suitable first run?

The operator calls it the easiest line and an introduction to steeper-style trails. That makes it a sensible starting discussion for an intermediate rider, not a universal beginner guarantee. Ask staff about current conditions and ride the first lap conservatively.

What grade is Rocket Line?

Its dedicated operator page describes a black surfaced jump trail. Take the named features and on-site signs seriously; doubles and the Moon booter require suitable experience. A colour label should not replace assessing a particular jump.

Can I ride an e-bike without uplift?

The 2026 booking page gives e-bike riders the same day-pass tariff as riders pushing up. Purchase the appropriate pass and follow the designated return route. No charging or hire service should be assumed from that ticket description.

Is Wednesday evening uplift running in October?

The current operator update says the 2026 Wednesday evening season ended on 16 September. Use weekend booking availability for an autumn trip, and consult new announcements before planning a later midweek session.

Can a junior rider attend without a riding adult?

The booking rules require riders aged 15 and under to ride with a responsible adult throughout. A parent or guardian must also buy the ticket and accept risk for an under-18. Arrange that supervision before committing to the visit.
