Chicksands Bike Park is a purpose-built riding destination in Rowney Warren, Bedfordshire, near Shefford. Its separate pump tracks, flow trail and red jump lines make it a place to practise particular skills through repeat runs. Start with a track that matches your current ability and treat the next feature as a decision of its own. The park's variety does not mean every visitor should progress through every line in one day.
The operator lists Flow Line as blue, with rollable jumps, and identifies more committing features on Lines In The Pines and Lock Down Line. Younger riders have green pump-track options. Plan a session around a small number of suitable tracks, with breaks to review what is working. Stay with suitable terrain without following friends onto gaps or timber features. Black lines such as Bull Run and Snake Run add large gaps and committing descents for experienced riders.

Tiger Cub and Tiger pump tracks
Green
The operator describes Tiger Cub as a balance-bike option for toddlers, with berms and rollers, and Tiger as a slightly larger green track. Choose the size and pace that suit the child, and supervise from an appropriate safe position. A small track still needs space between users and a child able to stop when asked.
Smooth berms, rollers and rollable jumps form the operator's blue trail down the hill. It is intended to develop already established jumping and flow skills. Use the first run to understand the turns and landings, rolling features when that is the appropriate choice. Repeat a comfortable line before adding speed; a successful lap is one where you can control your approach and finish, not one where every jump leaves the ground.
The dedicated operator page identifies wooden drops, on-and-off features and a whaletail among berms, hips and doubles. Those features demand a separate assessment from Flow Line. Inspect the intended route without standing in another rider's path and understand the landing before committing. Do not assume a red sign guarantees that every feature can be rolled; choose a different track when you lack the skill or confidence for the available line.
The operator describes berms, gapped hip jumps, drops and rollable tabletops. The distinction between a gap and a tabletop matters: one feature's description does not apply to the whole trail. Decide whether the complete run suits you before starting, including its exit. Avoid using another rider's speed as your only guide, because their technique and familiarity may be different from yours.
Separate pages describe green pump tracks, blue Flow Line, red jump lines and harder downhill tracks. These are repeat-run areas, with return paths and spectator zones.
Begin by asking staff which open track suits your aim and experience. A pump-track session can build timing, while a rider already comfortable on blue jump trails may choose Flow Line for initial runs. Take enough time to learn the return route and how other riders queue. The park asks riders never to ride alone; organise company and rest before fatigue affects control.
Chicksands requires a helmet and strongly recommends full-face protection and suitable armour. Read its equipment requirements before packing, and bring a mechanically sound mountain bike suitable for the planned features. Both brakes must work correctly. Coaching is advertised by the park and can be a useful way to approach a specific progression goal; arrange a session independently of buying a day pass.
Where is Chicksands Bike Park?
Chicksands Bike Park is reached from Shefford. Use SG17 5QQ alongside the official entrance directions. Official directions →
Use the operator's address on Northwood End Road, Shefford, SG17 5QQ. The park is in Rowney Warren; navigate to its own visitor destination and follow arrival signage. Allow time to organise equipment before riding. Keep bikes clear of other vehicles and use the marked access routes when moving from parking into the park.
Day passes are purchased at the cabin on arrival, with no advance day-pass bookings offered. Complete the required waiver before riding and follow the sign-in procedure; members also sign in for their day band. A coaching booking or a hire reservation does not remove the park's admission requirements.

Facilities
The park advertises an on-site coffee shop serving drinks and snacks, and its safety rules identify a toilet in the lower car park. Keep bags and spare equipment out of start areas, landings and gateways. Spectators must stay in designated safety areas and cannot wander along the riding lines.
There is currently no running-water bike wash. Hire is referred to BRINK's separate shop, so reserve a suitable bicycle and arrange its transport with the provider before arrival. This guide does not mark hire as an on-site facility. Bring food, drinking water and essential spares for your own session, and take litter home as the park requires.
Bike hire at Chicksands Bike Park
The park directs bike-hire enquiries to BRINK’s separate shop. Arrange the bicycle and its transport with the provider before arriving; hire is not an on-site facility.
Day passes are bought at the cabin on arrival; advance day-pass booking is unavailable. Complete the waiver and sign in before riding. The operator’s weekly timetable normally excludes Mondays outside holiday exceptions.
The current operator timetable lists Tuesday to Friday sessions from 10am to 5pm and weekend sessions from 9am to 5pm. Mondays are normally closed except bank holidays and school holidays. Consult the live timetable before travelling, especially when daylight or special arrangements change. There is no access outside opening hours; membership is not permission to enter a closed park.
The operator describes Chicksands as a year-round venue, but the surface and available lines still need a fresh assessment on each visit. Read closures and staff instructions, and allow the first run to establish grip. Follow the designated return paths instead of walking or riding back up a descending trail. Keep run-outs clear and never cut across another line to save a few steps.
Camping and places to stay near Chicksands Bike Park
A base in Shefford / Old Warden
Shefford is the town reference in the park's address; Old Warden offers verified overnight alternatives nearby in the wider Bedfordshire area. Old Warden Guest House publishes en-suite accommodation at the Clock House. Agree bicycle storage directly before booking and plan your own transfer to Northwood End Road. An accommodation listing is not a promise of a traffic-free route to the park.
For non-riders, Shuttleworth's Collection and Garden offer a separate outing at Old Warden. Choose the appropriate ticket and day, since events and house access have their own arrangements. Agree a meeting time before splitting up. At the bike park itself, companions can use the café and permitted spectator areas, but should not follow riders along tracks to take photographs.

RIDE PREPARATION
Kit for this ride
Consider what suits the route, forecast and your own experience.
The operator sells day passes at the cabin and does not offer advance day-pass bookings. Every rider still needs the waiver and sign-in procedure. Arrange coaching or hire separately.
Are there tracks for young children?
Tiger Cub and Tiger are green pump tracks, with Tiger Cub described for toddlers on balance bikes. Select a suitable track and supervise throughout. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Can I use an e-bike?
The park welcomes qualifying EAPCs and excludes throttle-assisted bikes. Ask the operator if you are uncertain about a particular bicycle's suitability before relying on it for the visit.
Does Flow Line mean all the red jumps are rollable?
No. Flow Line's description includes rollable jumps, while the red lines include gaps and wooden features. Assess each chosen trail and feature separately, and do not assume an easier alternative exists.
Can spectators walk through the park?
They may watch from designated safety areas and do not need a riding pass. The operator prohibits walking around the trails. Use the café or permitted viewing areas and keep riding exits clear.
Develop braking, cornering, climbing and technical riding through deliberate practice, with sensible progression for roots, rocks, steeps, wheel lifts and jumps.
