Dyfi Bike Park is a descending-focused destination in Esgair Forest above Pantperthog, three miles north of Machynlleth. Its Land Rover uplift and upper/lower mountain choices let experienced riders build a day around repeated runs. The riding begins at red level, with harder lines reaching the operator’s professional triple-black category. Choose Dyfi because its terrain matches your current skills, rather than expecting a beginner circuit beside the café.
The park’s identity comes from sustained mountain descents and deliberately built progression. Flowing red tracks give riders somewhere to establish rhythm before considering more committing features. In August 2026 the operator also opened an upper-mountain expansion that combines uplift with further climbing under pedal or motor power. That adds a different natural riding experience, while future purpose-built climbing phases remain plans rather than an assumed replacement for uplift.
Red
A machine-built flow trail follows the western valley, passes through cedar woodland and connects towards the lower part of 50 Hits. Use its rollers and berms to establish grip and braking points before increasing speed. The operator recommends this as a first-run option.

The ridgeline start opens out to valley views before berms, smaller jumps and a fast finishing section. It works as a progression lap once you are settled, but the open mountain setting makes weather part of the decision, especially before jumping.

The original track now includes a longer loop through larch woodland. Its rollable main features, berms and tabletops offer another red progression choice. The optional Racetrack finish is a separate harder decision; follow the appropriate signed connection rather than simply following another rider.

Off-camber roots, rocks and six steep finishing berms make this a demanding lower-mountain option. Its dedicated page explicitly grades it double black. Reserve it for established expert riding and inspect unfamiliar features before committing to a complete run.

For a first Dyfi visit, start with the operator’s Lovey Dyfi-to-Super Swooper recommendation, provided red-level park riding is already comfortable. Treat that first run as a conditions check. If the upper mountain feels particularly cold, wet or windy, ask the crew about lower alternatives such as Third Degree Berms. A first visit to this park should not also be your first attempt at controlling sustained downhill speed.
Experienced riders should still leave room for inspection and repeat laps before tackling expert features. Dyfi’s grading separates single black, double black and professional triple black: the last category includes unavoidable unrollable features. Do not treat those distinctions as interchangeable. Coaching is available individually or in groups if the aim is a particular technical step rather than simply riding a harder signposted colour.

Book ahead: the uplift product explicitly excludes walk-ins. Current day-pass prices differ by day, beginning at £50 on Thursday, with your selected booking determining the cost. Machynlleth has a Transport for Wales railway station, but arrange the final connection to the park separately. If travelling with your own bike, confirm train capacity and onward transport before booking a fixed riding day.

It gives a mixed party a place to meet without companions riding the hill. The arrival guide identifies a shop and bike wash beside the uplift approach. Bring essential spares for your own bike rather than making the whole day depend on finding a particular replacement component.
Pack a full-face helmet, knee pads and gloves in line with the uplift booking requirements. The park’s rules permit suitable mountain bikes and qualifying pedal-assist e-bikes, while excluding hybrids, gravel bikes and throttle-assisted machines. Tell the crew what you intend to ride if you are uncertain about equipment suitability. An uplift booking does not remove the need for an appropriate, maintained bike.

Reserve an uplift place before travelling; the park does not accept walk-in uplift bookings. Use the live calendar for dates and prices and allow time to sign in before riding.
Dyfi combines hard-packed dirt with slate and rock, so a familiar run can feel very different after rain. Upper and lower mountain sessions also expose riders to different weather. Allow the first lap to determine the day’s pace, and choose lower terrain when the crew recommends it. The published uplift window is generally 10am–4pm, with an earlier finish possible in the darkest period; organise breaks around your booked day’s actual operation.
Machynlleth is the convenient town base for food and an evening away from the forest. The White Lion on Heol Pentrehedyn lists a restaurant and bar, with vegetarian and vegan options as well as bicycle storage among its facilities. Contact the venue about meal service and any storage you need; an overnight guest arrangement should not be assumed to apply to a passing diner.
For non-riders, MOMA Machynlleth at The Tabernacle offers free entry to its exhibitions in seven galleries. Published opening is Tuesday–Friday 10am–4pm and Saturday 10am–1pm, with Monday and Sunday closed. It is a useful town-centre activity during an uplift session, but the shorter Saturday hours make it something to plan early rather than a guaranteed stop after riding.

The park’s uplift product says advance bookings only, with no walk-ins. Choose the date and complete the required participation documentation before relying on a riding session.
Its dedicated operator page grades it red. The optional Racetrack finish changes the challenge, so distinguish the chosen line from the name of the red track.
The park welcomes qualifying pedal-assist e-bikes and has introduced upper-mountain riding reached after uplift. Equipment restrictions still apply; this does not imply unrestricted pedal access throughout the park.
Riders aged 15 and under require responsible adult supervision on the trails as well as during the visit. Arrange a riding adult and discuss junior documentation directly with the park.
The café welcomes non-riders during opening hours, and MOMA offers a separate gallery visit in Machynlleth. Agree transport and meeting times, particularly around the gallery’s shorter Saturday opening.
