Glencoe Mountain Resort combines chairlift-served downhill tracks with cross-country loops on the plateau above Rannoch Moor. Its setting gives the day a different feel from a wooded trail centre: the riding sits on an open mountain, with views towards Buachaille Etive Mòr and weather that can determine the lift service. Come for rocky downhill laps or a lift-assisted XC outing, selecting the right route family before buying a ticket.
The operator lists red and black downhill tracks alongside Nae Danger, Epic Glades and Loop De Dhubh, graded blue, red and black respectively. The plateau trails still involve climbing after the chairlift journey, so uplift does not make every lap a descent. Some mountain-bike experience is required even for the plateau network. Glencoe suits riders who can control their bike on natural terrain and are ready to adjust the day to conditions.

Blue XC · 1.5 km · 40 m gain
The operator’s trail sheet describes a Land Rover track climb to the winter café followed by plateau singletrack and short climbs and descents. It is the gentlest named plateau choice. Start here if mountain riding is new but basic off-road control is established.
This loop continues climbing beyond the café before linking faster singletrack and rocky technical sections. The lift saves the initial approach but leaves a physical ride on the mountain. Pace the climb and keep enough attention in reserve for the rougher descending sections.
The black option branches from Epic Glades towards Creag Dhubh, then descends a steep, loose and rocky line. The quoted kilometre describes the branch, not the full approach-and-return ride. Choose it for established technical ability; it is not simply an extra distance marker.
The current description identifies five sections with berms, bumps, jumps and technical riding, crossing the hill access road. Most features are rollable or have alternatives, but the newer gap jump is an exception. Identify your intended line before approaching an unfamiliar feature with speed.
The operator describes a steep technical track with rocks, hairpins, berms and drops, intended for experienced downhill riders. This is the demanding descent option, with mandatory full-face helmet and body armour. Walking an unfamiliar section is a sensible decision when its line exceeds your ability.
The linked map distinguishes plateau XC from downhill riding. Both use mountain access, but plateau loops still involve climbing; old map prices should not guide current ticket purchases.
Choose the plateau or downhill session deliberately. For a first plateau visit, begin with Nae Danger, establish the grip available on the day and then decide whether Epic Glades fits your skills. For downhill riders already comfortable on red terrain, take an unhurried first Red Downhill lap. Look ahead for road crossings and optional lines, and resist following another rider into a jump you have not assessed.
Experienced downhill visitors can build towards the black track once familiar with the mountain and its conditions. Carry the protection the operator requires and read the participation statement before purchasing a riding ticket. Riders under sixteen need a parent or guardian to accompany them and approve participation. Discuss any junior downhill visit with the resort beforehand; the participation paperwork sets the minimum downhill riding age at twelve.

The resort is signposted from the A82 on Rannoch Moor, with the postal address Kingshouse, Glencoe, PH49 4HZ. Use the resort destination for navigation, not Glencoe village. Allow time at the car park to organise lift tickets, equipment and hire before joining the chairlift queue. Ask about any parking terms applying to your vehicle; a campsite pitch and a day visit are different arrangements.
The operator identifies Bridge of Orchy and Fort William as rail gateways and Scottish Citylink as a coach connection serving the resort. Confirm the current stop, timetable and bicycle carriage conditions before building a car-free trip around your own bike. Public transport reaches the area, but the final transfer still needs a workable plan for the equipment you are carrying.

Facilities
The White Corries café provides a base for meals and meeting non-riding companions. On-site accommodation includes camping and microlodges, with toilets, showers and drying-room facilities listed by the operator. Confirm the facilities attached to your booking when staying overnight. A sleeping bag is required for the resort’s newer eco-lodge accommodation, so pack according to the actual unit you reserve.
Full-suspension bikes and protective equipment are available to hire. Reserve the appropriate size and discuss your planned routes with the hire team. The Shred Shed can help with minor adjustments and repairs when staff have time, including tyre work and tubeless sealant. Bring essential spares for your own bike; the presence of a workshop does not promise an immediate replacement for every damaged part.
Bike hire at Glencoe Mountain Resort
Glencoe offers full-suspension mountain bikes and protective equipment for hire. Reserve the right size and discuss the planned mountain routes with the hire team; on-the-day availability is not guaranteed.
Bike riding normally runs around mid-May to late October, weather permitting. Buy the correct cycling lift product rather than a scenic chairlift ticket and read the live bike-track report before travelling.
The summer-price page describes the bike season as roughly mid-May to late October, subject to weather. The bike-track report reviewed on 11 October 2026 reported riding and hire operating daily. Read that live report before travelling: a listed season is not a guarantee that the chair will run through high winds. Lift opening and last bicycle uplift also differ from the final sightseeing-chair journey.
On an open mountain, a wet or windy morning can make a familiar grade feel more demanding. Carry a warm layer for waiting and breaks, keep your first run measured, and leave time for a safer return. On-site accommodation operating through winter does not establish winter operation of the bicycle tracks or uplift.

A base in Glencoe / Ballachulish
For the shortest overnight arrangement, the resort’s own microlodges and campsite keep you at the riding base. Kingshouse Hotel offers a separate hotel and bunkhouse choice nearby in the wider glen, while Glencoe and Ballachulish provide further accommodation options. Arrange bike storage directly with your host and include the drive back to the resort when choosing a village base.
Kingshouse’s restaurant and bar offer an off-mountain meal option. For a non-riding visit, the National Trust for Scotland’s Glencoe Visitor Centre has films, exhibitions and a reconstructed turf and creel house. It is a separate destination from the resort, so agree transport and meeting times if companions visit while you ride.

RIDE PREPARATION
Kit for this ride
Consider what suits the route, forecast and your own experience.
The resort’s five listed downhill and plateau routes use chairlift access. Plateau XC routes then include further climbing. External valley-floor paths are a separate outing, not another guaranteed lift-served park loop.
How long is Nae Danger?
The operator’s linked trail sheet lists the blue XC loop as 1.5 km with 40 m of height gain. Its short length does not remove the need for basic mountain-bike experience.
Do I need a full-face helmet?
A helmet is required on every track. The code of practice makes a full-face helmet and body armour mandatory on Black Downhill and recommends them for the other downhill tracks.
Can I hire a bike at Glencoe?
Yes. The resort advertises full-suspension hire plus helmets and armour. Book the correct size, confirm collection arrangements with the hire team and distinguish the bike rental from your uplift ticket.
Does the bike park run throughout winter?
The published bicycle season is approximately mid-May to late October, weather permitting. Year-round accommodation and winter skiing do not imply winter mountain-bike uplift. Use the current bike report for your travel date.
